Our first timeMac SE

Most FileMaker developers have vivid memories about the first time they used FileMaker. For us, we where providing technical assistance to a newly formed non-profit. The year was 1988, and this newly formed non-profit had received a grant for the Alliance for Technology Access (sponsored by Apple) which included a brand new Macintosh SE, a LaserWriter IINT,and a box of software. We were originally asked to migrate three lists from an Apple IIe using AppleWorks, a DOS machine running PFS File, and a ASCII text file from a COBOL system. After digging through the software they owned, we discovered FileMaker Plus, and proceeded to install it on the 'huge' 20 megabyte hard drive.

To be honest, it was not love at first sight; however, after a couple of hours of frustration - the current owner of Worldcloud took the manual back to the office and discovered how to change from layout to layout...at that time a 'light' went off and that was the beginning of a long-time passion for FileMaker.

The birth of a company

Like many companies, we have endured name changes and changes in ownership over the years, so it's hard to identify a single moment when we conceived of what is now known as Worldcloud. Since 1998 the current principles of Worldcloud have been providing full-time FileMaker Pro development services, in late 2000, we started hosting with FileMaker Pro 5 Unlimited and Lasso on iMacs connected to a single T3 connection. In 2003 several companies were merged into what is now worldcloud.com. We have had the opportunity to witness huge changes in the industry and in the databases we develop, support, and host.

Worldcloud made another change in direction, in the fall of 2010. Instead of simply providing a 'platform' for professional developers to host their databases, we have added dedicated staff to offer extensive support, development, and training services to our clients. It was once enough to have a fast internet connection to become a hosting provider, but now the industry has progressed, and the only way to address the diverse needs of our users was to expand our offerings. We have always been a leader in both price and performance, but with the array of new technologies associated with cloud computing, we realize that there is no 'single' product which fits all client needs.

We want this website to serve as a place where you can learn, but we also want to learn from you. We have an online chat service, we have email, and we have a toll-free phone number. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call.

A Maritime Tradition

ship in trouble
Two hundred years ago, brave skippers would gamble their liveihood, their ships, and often their lives, on their ability to harness the power of the clouds. Rarely did success hinge on a single decison, but on a routine of preparation, planning, and perserverance.

These captains were the true entrepreneurs of their day... taking control of their fate through their ability to harness the clouds. Even today the newest ships with their modern technology can be humbled by the sea. A healthy respect for nature is essential to survive.

Even though most of our clients are not sailing the high seas, they are venturing into a 'new world' and trusting that their ability to harness the power of cloud computing to power the next generation of business applications.

Like those who have gone before, many of our clients depend on the cloud to run their businesses. They trust us to provide business critical products and services.

In the old days, a passenger or a merchant could inspect the ship, look at the appearance of the crew, and review the ship's log; however, in this high tech world there are many providers and many clients don't have the skills to recognize the difference between a crew of swabbies and a crew of old salts.

We hope that you will take the time to explore our site, ask us questions; and discover that we have the ability to listen to the waves and can help uscg logoguide you through these unchartered waters. Just to that you know that we are qualified, we have a 'real' United States Coast Guard licensed Master Captain on staff.

A weather-eye on the horizon

All of our servers are fully monitored so we can assure the highest reliability. We also utilize high availability clusters and redundant drive systems, so that we have respond to issues as they arise. We can't promise that our servers will never fail (nor can anyone), but we can assure you that we have taken every precaution as reccomended by market leaders like the Gartner Group.

A proper Perspective

Although we are the largest FileMaker-centric hosting provider in market, we are still small compared to the large web hosts like GoDaddy or AOL. We are a small business, and we work with small businesses every day. We haven't lost the prespective of trying to build something from scratch. We have assembled the products, services, and staff to help you succeed.

Dedicated Services

We have server clusters in eight different datacenters accross the world. We offer MacOSX, Microsoft Windows, and Linux based hosting. We also offer the lastest virtual desktop and virtual application environments. Whether you need a single processor, or 200 concurrent proccessors - we have a solution. We are committed to offering a full-line of hosting products - many more than most of our competitors, which will allow you to grow and expand.

Associations & Certifications

It's one thing to 'claim' to be serious, but we work hard every day to prove it. We have Certified FileMaker Developers on staff, we are FileMaker Business Alliance members, as well as FileMaker Technet members. We have spoken at the annual FileMaker Developers Conference, and we have exhibited there for the past 8 years.
